
Aspiring Athlete Programme
The Aspiring athlete programme is intrinsically/closely linked to the school’s overall pastoral care programme, Aspire. It aims to provide tailored and individual support to help balance pupils’ workloads alongside high level training in sport.
pupils who have additional training commitments alongside their academic schedules.

Mrs McHale, Head of Sport Performance, leads the programme and is the point of contact when needing to balance training and academic work. She also overseas areas of additional support, including:
- Strength and conditioning to enhance performance and aid in injury prevention.
- Inspiratory and informative talks to widen athletes knowledge on various tops.

How do I join the Aspiring Athlete Programme?

The Aspiring Athlete programme is split into two categories:

Inspiring Athletes
These are athletes who have represented their country and are competing at the highest level for their sport.
​
Aspiring Athletes
These are athletes who have been nominated by their coaches (in and outside of school). They might be on a talent pathway for their chosen sport or may be competing at a high level in a number of different sports.

Each invitation or application is treated individually, with a number of factors involved. The following criteria are considered:

- International status.
- Hours of training that an athlete under goes each week.
- Level of experience in their sport (Senior or Junior level).
- High level performance in one or multiple sports.
- Contribution to school sport, which is essential to be a member of the programme.
What are my Responsibilities as an Inspiring or Aspiring Athlete?

Each member of the programme will be required to sign a contract. Responsibilities include:

Seeking help and support from Mrs McHale if required.

Keeping Mrs McHale informed of any of my sporting achievements

Conducting myself to the highest standards of sportsmanship, at all competitions.

Giving back to GHS sport and contributing to school sport wherever possible.

Attending sports talks, seminars and workshops, organised to promote personal sporting performance, whenever possible.

Acting as an ambassador for GHS and good role model in both behaviour and performance.
Understanding that signing the Aspiring Athlete Programme contract is a promise to continue being the best that I can be in my academia and sporting endeavours.
