
Nutrition for Health
Good nutrition is one of the keys to a healthy life. You can improve your health by keeping a balanced diet. A balanced diet will give your body the nutrients it needs to function correctly everyday. If we deprive our body of what it needs, or eliminate one food group without seeking appropriate medical or qualified nutritional advice, you might affect your health, which can have a negative effect to how you feel, look, think and act.
So what should a balanced plate of food like like?

As a general portion guide:​

Fruit and vegetables: 5+ portions per day

Starchy carbohydrates: 3-4 portions per day

Beans, pulses, fish, eggs, meat and other proteins: 2-3 portions per day

Dairy and alternatives: 2-3 portions per day

As well as eating for health and providing our body and brain with the energy to function well, we should enjoy food! Meal times should be a sociable and enjoyable part of our day when we chat with friends and family. As a simple rule, eat in moderation with a bit of everything - and that can definitely include a slice of cake or chocolate bar!
